Sandra Rhodenizer booked her second trip to a Nova Scotia Club championship this season as part of the Jeff Mordeen foursome, who scored an 8-5 last-rock victory over Paul Avery in the final of the Chester Mixed Club playdowns on Sunday afternoon.

Already throwing mate for Amber Trimm's Dominion Club Women's team, Sandra will again throw third rocks as she and Jeff, joined by her husband Gary and lead Laura Mertens, will be the home team when Chester Curling Club hosts the 2012 NS Club Mixed Championships from March 8 - 11.

Avery's team of mate Renate Graham, second Charles Walker (throwing skip rocks) and lead Darlene Gates qualified for Sunday's final via tie-breaker when all three participating teams finished the round-robin with 1-1 records. The day curling team of Ron Ternoway, Mardi Rawding, Dave Wall and Mary Raine were the only team to defeat Mordeen, but were eliminated by Jeff & Co. in Sunday morning's semi-final.

Congratulations to Team Mordeen, and good luck and good curling at the NS Club Mixed!

P.R.O. Kids fundraiser draws a crowd

Over 50 curlers and fun seekers showed up at the Chester Curling Club recently for the third annual P.R.O Kids curling fundraiser. They raised almost $1700.00 for the progam which provides financial assistance to children and youth who, due to lack of funds, are not able to participate in sport, recreation and cultrual activities.

Organizer Jackie Bremner reports, "Everyone had a great time at the club and then of course we went to the Fo'c'sle where there were many prizes, great food and socializing with live music."

On the ice Christine Morash, Laura Mertens and Dave Hyslop were declared winners. Harold Britten, Mark Swinimer and Kirk Swinimer finished second. The coveted "most-fun-on-and-off-the-ice" placing went to Meryn Avery, Jen Dewolfe, John Dewolfe and Jacki Fletcher.

Snowball draws near. Mark calender for curling, dinner, dance

The Snowball Mixed is now officially full for the February 10 to 12 weekend. Event chair Cathy Rafuse reports there will be curlers from many parts of the province. She thanked those local teams that came forward to fill the last few spots in the draw, "….and thank you to those of you who have offered your help with the many tasks associated to hosting an event such as this."

Time is running out to reserve a ticket for the Saturday night dinner and dance. Then plan to come to the dance and bring a guest! Tickets to the dance are just $5 per person.

Cathy says, "We have a great live band this year…Late Nite Lover! They are an energetic fun local dance band who have successfully entertained at our club recently during The Dominion Men’s Championship and the Golf Curling Weekend …and they are looking forward to playing to a full dance floor starting at 9:00 pm!"

The weekend culminates on Sunday afternoon with the final games and presentation of prizes.
